Our 2017 Sponsored Athletes

Introducing the athletes that we are backing this season! Pembrokeshire Bikes Director, Joshua Fiddy, raced and competed as a teenager and hugely appreciated the backing and support he received from his local club at the time. After being severely injured after being knocked off his bike during a training ride in 2008, Josh wasn’t able to pursue as fiercely the ambitions he had had. At Pembrokeshire Bikes we appreciate how expensive and tough it can be as a young athlete and we look for people who show real potential and drive to achieve. This year’s athletes are all very different in many ways, yet all share the same drive to succeed and excel in the triathlon/cycling sport.

A bit about me:
Originally from a swimming background I began competing in triathlons in 2005, racing as a junior at National level. Following that I have competed in triathlons around the country, with primary accomplishments that include winning the City of Bath Sprint Triathlon in 2012, as well as qualifying for the World Age Group Championships for sprint distance in the same year.
I spent two years in Australia swimming for Perth City Masters, winning the 2014 West Australian Championships for 50m and 200m freestyle as well as setting a National Masters Record for the 4 x
50m freestyle relay. Having returned to the UK in 2015, I achieved third place in the National Surf Lifesaving 2.5km swim. I’m currently living in Brighton and racing for Team NBCC, with Brighton Tri Club as my second claim.
Aims:
My target event in 2017 is the European championships for standard distance in Kitzbuhel, with additional aims of qualifying for the 2017 World championships and 2018 European championships for the same distance.

A bit about me:

I was born in Cardiff and have lived most of my life in Pembrokeshire despite periods of time living in Amman, Jordan and Al-Ain, UAE. I’m 18 and live with my Mum, Dad and brother in Caerfarchell (near Solva). I went to school in St.Davids and am now studying for A levels in Maths, Physics and Further Maths in Pembrokeshire college. My favourite film is Billy Elliot and my favourite book is Metamorphosis by Frank Kafka. I also like playing the piano. I can play a few theme tunes as well as classical pieces by Chopin and Debussy. My favourite modern music group is Muse. My favourite TV series are Breaking Bad and the Mighty BooshI first learnt to ride a bike at 7 but it wasn’t until last summer that I started taking cycling seriously as a sport. Since the age of 11 I had always been a runner. I eventually was forced to give up due to numerous injury problems but along the way I won the U17, U20 and Welsh Schools 3000m championships, represented Wales over track and cross country on six occasions and finished third in the Celtic Games (for 3000m).

Aims:

This year I am aiming to break 20 minutes for 10 miles and feature as well as possible in the Welsh junior TT championships.
